            ডাটাতথ্য, প্রদানকৃত নির্দেশ বা Command, Program বা তার ফলাফল স্থায়ী বা অস্থায়ীভাবে কম্পিউটারের যে অংশে সংরক্ষণ করা হয়, তাকে Computer Memory (স্মৃতিবা Storage Device  বলে । Computer Memory কে Byte এই এককের সাহায্যে পরিমাপ করা হয় । আটটি Bit মিলে হয় এক Byte । আর এই Bit  হল বাইনারী ডিজিট, যা কেবলমাত্র বা  ( 0 মানে ইলেকট্রিক নেই, 1 মানে ইলেকট্রিক আছে কে ধারণ করতে পারে ।

           কম্পিউটারের কাজ দ্রুততর করার জন্য Micro Processor ও Primary memory  এর মাঝখানে অপর একটি সহায়ক memory স্থাপন করা হয় । একে Cache Memory বলে । ইহাতে Access Time অনেক কম হয় । ফলে Processing দ্রুতগতিতে হয় ।
   Computer Memory সাধারণত দুই প্রকার –
১) Primary memory:  এই মেমরীকে Main memory  বলা হয় । ইহা সরাসরি ALU এর সাথে সংযুক্ত থাকে ।  
2)          Secondary memory

1.1) Introduction (ভূমিকা) : 
                                          
আজ কম্পিউটার শব্দটি সকলের কাছে কম-বেশি পরিচিত। আমাদের দৈনন্দিন জীবনযাত্রার মধ্যে কম্পিউটার প্রত্যক্ষ বা পরোক্ষভাবে ঢুকে পড়েছে । তাই বর্তমান সমnoয়ে আমাদের কম্পিউটার জানা জরুরী । কম্পিউটার শব্দটি ইংরেজী Compute  শব্দ থেকে এসেছে –যার অর্থ গণনা করা । কম্পিউটার হলো একটি বৈদ্যুতিক যন্ত্র যা অত্যন্ত দ্রুতগতিতে (মানুষের থেকে লক্ষ-কোটি গুণ বেশি) কোন হিসাব-নিকাশ,কোন সিদ্ধান্ত নিতে পারে । এটি বাইরের থেকে ইনপুট গ্রহন করে (কিবোর্ড, মাউস ইত্যাদির মাধ্যমে), তারপর সেটা নির্দেশ অনুসারে প্রসেস বা প্রক্রিয়াকরণ করার পর মনিটর বা অন্য কিছুর মাধ্যমে আউটপুট প্রদর্শন করে ।  

 Definition of a  Computer(কম্পিউটারের সংজ্ঞা): 
                                                A computer is a electronics device capable of performing computations and making logical decisions at speeds millions , even billions, of times faster than human beings can. Taking an input from keyboard/mouse or other devices it processes it according to instruction, then produces an output through monitor or others.  

এর প্রধানত দুটি অংশঃ ১। হার্ডওয়্যার- কম্পিউটারের বাহ্যিক যন্ত্রাংশ যা আমরা হাত দিয়ে স্পর্শ অনুভব করতে পারি তাকে হার্ডওয়্যার বলে । যেমন- কিবোর্ড, মাউস, মনিটর ইত্যাদি ।  
২। সফটওয়্যার- সফটওয়্যার হল কতকগুলি প্রোগ্রাম নির্দিষ্ট সজ্জাক্রমে সজ্জিত যা নির্দিষ্ট কাজ সম্পাদন করতে পারে ।  কম্পিউটার পরিচালনা করার জন্য  সফটওয়্যার লাগে । যেমন- উইন্ডোস , লীন্যাক্স ইত্যাদি ।
